He would definitely have been one since he was a Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts, prior to being the Headmaster of the school!

Most of us would think that it would be The Phoenix!
Well, it seems like an impressive guess, still, had it not been Phoenix, what other options you have in mind?

Why Harry Potter did not want to cast Patronus..

Harry Potter is believed to be one of the youngest wizards of the modern times to have conjured a patronus at the age of thirteen, but do you know he did not want to cast Patronus at all!

In the third book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban( which happens to be my favourite book), Remus Lupin teaches Harry how to cast a patronus in order to drive the dementors away. Harry had been attacked by a dementor while travelling on Hogwarts Express and then again while playing a match of Quidditch at Hogwarts grounds!

When a dementor moved near Harry, he started to feel numb and cold, as if all happiness was lost from the world and he could never be happy again. In addition to this, Harry heard the dreadful laughter of Voldemort and his mother pleading him not to kill Harry and kill her instead. It was the worst experience Harry had ever had.

Even after all this Harry did not want to cast Patronus because it was the only time when he could listen to his parent's voices. Driving the dementor away would mean no more bad feeling and no more listening to voices.
Harry was just an year old when his parents were killed by Lord Voldemort.


Well, love does things for reasons that reasons cannot understand!

Harry Potter : why is he the chosen one

Harry Potter-the boy who lived is called 'the chosen one', ever thought why is it so?

Well, the story begins when Albus Dumbledore goes out to recruit a teacher for the post of Divination. A very odd looking lady, Sybill Trelawney applies for the job and Dumbledore visit the village of Hogsmeade to meet her. Though Dumbledore didn't really think of her as a capable teacher, he recruits her.

Sybill Trelawney gave a prophecy that  changed everything in the wizarding world thereafter!

THE PROPHECY: The person who will kill the dark lord will be born to the parents who have fought him thrice. He will be born at the end of July. The dark lord himself will mark him as his equal yet he will not be aware of the powers the boy will possess. At the end, one of them will have to die because neither can live while the other survives.


While Trelawney was giving this prophecy in front of Dumbledore alone, Snape was listening to it and he was the one who informed the dark lord about this prophecy. 

THE CONTROVERSY: There were two babies due to be born at the end of July to the parent who had confronted the dark lord thrice, the other child was NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM!


The dark lord himself chose his vanquisher when he decided to attack the child born at the Potter's house, Harry Potter. While attacking young Harry, lord Voldemort ave him some of his powers and was not aware of this fact. Harry escaped death, having only a scar on his forehead whereas the dark lord was reduced to a being much less than a human, barely surviving. Both Harry's parent lost their lives in order to save him from Voldemort.

Thus, we know Harry Potter as 'the chosen one'!

Snape OR Sirius ?

This is one question that has been ringing inside my head soon after I completed reading the books.

Which one of these do you think is a better character?

I know that many of you believe that Severus Snape is the best sketched character in the entire series but please do think about Sirius Black. I am little partial towards Sirius because I relate to him a lot!

Severus was the one who played a two way agent  between Dumbledore and Voldemort when actually his loyalty was with Dumbledore. His love for Lily made him work for Dumbledore and protect Harry Potter through out his school years, and simultaneously he gained the confidence of Voldemort and fetched information from him. He followed Dumbledore's plans even after Dumbledore's death!

About him Harry Potter said,"He was the bravest man I ever knew!".

Sirius Black : Belonged to the family of Blacks. He was arrogant and pompous but against the belief that magical education should be restricted to pure bloods. He was best friends with James Potter and the Godfather of Harry Potter. He was sent to Azkaban for a crime he never committed. After 12 long years at the pridon he returned in order to see and protect Harry and show him the actual culprit behind the death of his parents, Peter Pettigrew!
He died while saving Harry and his friends at the Department of Mysteries after receiving the death curse from his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange. He was one of those persons whom Harry called after their death using the resurrection stone.

Deathly Hallows Part 2: the new Ravenclaw!

There are still some people left for sorting in the last past of the movie! Well, technically she's not a new member of Ravenclaw, just a new cast member on  role. Actress Kelly MacDonald will be portraying the role of the Grey Lady, the resident ghost of Ravenclaw house.

For those of you who have read the Harry Potter books, you'll be familiar to the part played by the Grey Lady. But in case, you're one of those casual fans of the series, I'll give a brief :

In later half of the final book we see that Harry Potter needs some information to complete his task of life. In this course he comes to know that the Grey Lady is the daughter of one of the founders of Hogwarts, Ravena Ravenclaw! The ghost of Grey Lady then tells him very important information which helps him in his endeavor.

"Though the role is small, its very essential to the plot",Kelly quoted.

Th Grey Lady was murdered by the Bloody Baron, who killed himself out of regret. The Bloody Baron was the resident ghost of Slytherin house and was supposed lover of the Grey Lady. These ghosts had been seen once in the first movie when Harry Potter first dines on his house table. The role was then played by Nina Young (Clash Of the Titans).

Harry Potter and the change in their lives : Part 1

Harry Potter movies started coming out about a decade back in 2001. The first one being, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, with three little kids in the lead cast. Now, there is no part of the world where the magic of this teen aged-wizard hasn't worked wonders and children from every where seem to go mad about him and his heroics!

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint play the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley respectively, in the classic series, Harry Potter.

They started off merely as little 11 years old and now, after a decade there is so much that has changed around them. The movies got enormous success and so did they! All these three stars grabbed a place in 'UK's Wealthiest People Under 30' list, with Daniel Radcliffe at the top, Emma and Rupert on 3rd and 4th place respectively!

I will write here about the different interviews these stars have given after the completion of the movie, so it might take more than just one post to put them here..

Starting with Emma Watson..

Emma has moved from her parents' place and is now living in Rhodes Island, in a rented apartment with a friend. She joined Brown University last September, and is studying Literature with arts and a geology subject. She says that "now that the movies are over, she wants to live a very normal life", like many others out there. In an interview with Express UK, she said that she missed school a lot because she was "a proper nerd". She is the new face of Burberry and has also deigned clothes under the label People Tree, but she doesn't want to become a designer.

She was hardly 9 years old when she, along with some other classmates, was chosen to audition for the role of Hermione Granger. Finally after eight rounds of try outs, she landed with the role. Despite of the hectic schedule of filming the movies, she got straight A's in her A-level examinations.

As of now she is happy at her college and is not sure whether she'll continue acting. She wants to complete her studies first, as she says. On talking about the end of the movies she replied,"Its been such a big part of our lives, it has formed us, it has made us what we are today so it is going to be very sad".

We wish Emma all the luck she needs for the future!

Yule Ball is not limited to Hogwarts anymore!

Remember the Yule Ball at Hogwarts, the ball that was celebrated to mark the beginning of the Tri-Wizard Tournament?

I know you do!

In the fourth book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, we see that the school is playing host for the tri-wizard tournament and couple of pairing we see there, Cedric and Chow Chang, were my favourite!

Well, just FYI the Yule Ball is not restricted to Hogwarts or Harry Potter anymore. Recently, a committee from University of Wisconsin held this charitable ball. The Wisconsin Union Directorate Publications sponsored the event in order to raise funds to support Madison Children's Hospital and Respite Center.

The WUD Publications Committee director Sarah Mathews said that the theme was so designed in order to promote reading for children and tie the event into literacy. The invitations and information was sent over Facebook and to the surprise of the committee members, 3,600 people said they would be attending! The problem of space was however evident. Tickets got sold in an hour and a half and they could not provide them for everyone who showed interest, since they were so limited.

The WUD committee collected 1,762 donations including books, art kits, stuffed animals and DVDs. At the end, Mathew said that the members of the committee were very pleased at the response they got and the manner in which the event concluded.

"People love Harry Potter and they love the idea of celebrating childhood", said Mathews.

Dear all,

Its really nice if you have already bought the Harry Potter Books, in case you haven't and are planning to purchase them, I have this little request to make, PLEASE SWITCH TO AUDIO BOOKS!

Audio Books help in saving paper, besides they are really convenient. You can either listen them online or download them to your machine, your choice. You can carry your Harry Potter stories that way, anywhere, in your phones or iPOD. They are not bulky, and I swear, they're really very well narrated, you'll enjoy them a lot, I've had all of them. The UK version is read by Stephen Frying (that's the one I have) and the US version is read by Jim Dale. Believe me, it will be a nice experience and you'll save some paper as well!

So, I hope that you'll give it a thought and consider my suggestion.

...support Harry Potter in Oscars

It is true friends, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 has been short listed and is now in the semi-final list for the category Visual Effects!

So far, four out of six Harry Potter movies have been nominated for Oscars in categories like Cinematography, visual effects, costumes and art direction, but has not received any. This time, there are strong chances of making it to the final list and end up winning the Oscar. The final nomination list will be announced on January 25, 2011.

Cinesite, one of the world's leading visual effects company has rendered its expertise in this movie. The effects include Dumbledore's ghost, doe patronous, Voldemort's voice and the list goes on. We have experienced those jaw dropping effects already, so, now its for the jury members of the academy to witness them.

Well, what we can do for now is to keep our fingers crossed and pray for our hero to grab the golden statue.

..Harry Potter and his friends return to platform nine and three-quarters

Yes, the news is right friends..Harry and his friends, Hermione and Ron got back to platform nine and three-quarters!

Recently, the cast of Harry Potter got a call from their director, David Yates, to re-shoot the last scene for the final movie that is scheduled for release in July next year, the epilogue of the book. The cast which includes Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Bonnie Wright and Tom Felton, were more than happy to return and re-shoot the scene even though they've had made emotional goodbyes.

The re-shoot was done at platform nine and three quarters, where Harry, Ron and Hermione were present to bid goodbye to their kids, who are ready to leave for Hogwarts!
The reason behind the re-shoot was that the director thought that Daniel, Emma, Ron and Tom Felton, all looked way too old than they were supposed to. He said that they were looking 'ancient' rather than middle-aged.

Don't know if the emotional stuff is going to happen again, after all they have worked together for about a decade, when they were no stars, just little children!

Even we don't wish to bid goodbye to our hero *sob sob* !!

yet again ..Harry Potter saves a lot many lives!

If you thought that Harry Potter was just another fictional character, you're wrong. For those who think of Harry as a hero, here's another comforting news, The Seany Foundation hosted an early screening of the movie, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:Part 1' on Nov. 18, just a few hours before the scheduled release of the movie. Hundreds of Potter fans came to watch the movie, all dressed up in their Potter-ish uniforms, attended the event 'Hairless Potter Night', as this event lifted the spirits of the young cancer patients. The event raised $ 14000 and the proceeds will benefit projects at Rady's Children's Hospital and USCD Moore's Cancer Center.

Even earlier, Harry Potter books and the other three supporting texts, viz.,The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch through Ages, all have raised funds for underpriviledged and ill children.

J.K. Rowling auctioned one of her hand written copies of The Tales of Beedle the Bard for $ 3.98 million, the amount was given to the Chidren's Voice charity campaign.

Ofourse, 'with great powers comes great responsibility'!

the Legacy of Harry Potter..

The Harry Potter series is about to finish as the last installment of movies is the only part left for release. What is it that our hero Harry Potter is going to leave for us? There are a number of questions that start coming to our mind when we seriously think about it. How is the younger generation going to react? Will they just forget Harry Potter like many other fables that they read in their childhood? Or are they going to crave to see their hero again? The answer to these questions cannot be given as of now.

According to J.K. Rowling, the central theme of the series is 'Death'. Is it fine for the young ones to think about the matters related to life and death, at this early age? Or should they just see the magic in the story? Anyway, they will make their own decisions.

As far as I am concerned, I cannot and will not scrap off Harry Potter from my memory as it has been a part of my life for nearly 10 long years. Most of us have grown up reading Harry Potter books and saying out the spells at random. The things that I would like the younger generation to pick from this series are - the friendship that Harry, Ron & Hermione share, also, Ginny, Luna & Neville; the trust that they have over each other.

There is one definite message that Harry Potter gives us, "At the end, our choices make us what we are". There is always a choice between the good and the bad, the right and the wrong....and we can choose to be good..!!

Quidditch : what about it..??
Friends..this is something that all of us ought to know, encourage and participate, yes, I am talking about Quidditch which is played, celebrated and recognised. Last month the International Quidditch Association organised the Fourth Quidditch World Cup ..and what an event it was!!
What I wish to convey is that Quidditch is not limited to movies and games..its for real now..!!
If you are a true Harry Potter fan, you've got to witness this sport, after all it is the most popular sport in the wizarding world and aren't we a part of it..!!

Harry Potter : Speculation or not?

There are certain loopholes in Harry Potter books, or atleast so they say.

One that I have been wanting to discuss is from the second book : Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

WHY : The hissing sound is heard only by Harry?

My Reason supporting the question would be: Its true and clearly mentioned in the book that Harry is a parsel-tongue, but, even others should have been able to hear it since it was a sound though Harry could have been the only to understand what the creature was saying. Isn't this a blunder in the book?

Prof. Lockhart, Hermione, Ron were with Harry at some point of time or another when Harry heard the sound but none of them were able to hear it. Was it something to do with Voldemort and Harry's scar, the connection between them or some other phenomenon that has not been well explained in the books? And if Harry Potter was able to hear it, why didn't he try to understand what the Basilisk wanted to say?

Do tell me what do you think about this little flaw. If you have the reasons to prove otherwise, please write back to me. I would to love to listen from you all.

the girl who entered the Harry Potter book..!!

Natalie McDonald, who appears on pg. 159 of the book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.. is a real person. Natalie was a 9 yr old girl, a patient of leukaemia from Toronto, Canada. She wrote an email to JK to know what would happen in the next book of Harry Potter because she said she won't live long enough to read the book. When JK replied to her mail, she died just a day before. In her memory, JK wrote her name in the book..as a first year student who gets sorted into Gryffindor house. Later, while promoting her book, she visited the McDonald family.

In the Harry Potter series ..there are some exceptions .. with magic that need to be followed..

New York finally finds out platform nine and three quarters ..

A new symbol was seen at the Union Square Subway Station sign in New York that read 9 3/4 in a red circle. Now, you would think that its a part of promotion for the new release Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 ,but its not so. An unknown fan has put up this symbol at the sign board after that line went out of service in June this year.

In the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, we first come to see the platform 9 & 3/4 from where the magical folks board the Hogwarts Express. The person who did this will have to pay a fine of $75 for violating the MTA signage. Many delighted Potter fans visited the station and spotted the signboard which looks so close to the original description that one starts thinking otherwise.

Do you remember the first chapter of your Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone ....ahh .. I know you do.. such a nostalgia .. 'the boy who lived' continues to live ..and he is 30 years old ..head of the auror department .. well...no one requires to know details here...we know them by heart..don't we..!!
